FAF 2028 in Stuttgart: New formats, fresh impetus, proven strengths

Press release

The finishing and façade trades will remain at the heart of the event. New formats focusing on young talent, interior design and the future of skilled trade businesses will broaden the scope of FAF 2028.

Munich/Stuttgart, 16 September 2026 – FAF – FARBE, AUSBAU & FASSADE will take place in Stuttgart for the first time from 7 to 10 March 2028. The move to the new venue will enable the trade fair to place greater emphasis on a number of key areas. While painting, decorating, plastering and creative interior finishing will remain at its core, FAF will put a greater focus on young talent, training and professional development, interior design and the future of skilled trade businesses. At the same time, the trade fair will increasingly address related and adjacent target groups, including interior decorators, floor fitters, interior designers and planners, as well as the construction and housing sectors.

“Many businesses today work across interfaces that used to be more clearly separated. We want FAF to reflect this development more closely by incorporating related trades and topics. At the same time, the heart of the trade fair will remain unchanged: the painting, decorating, plastering and creative interior finishing trades,” says Bettina Erdmann, Director of FAF.

New venue, new opportunities

With the 2028 edition, FAF will be held at Messe Stuttgart for the first time. Located in one of Germany’s strongest economic and skilled trades regions, the venue offers ideal conditions for the event, thanks to its infrastructure, excellent accessibility and location in the heart of southern Germany’s economic area. At the same time, the exhibition grounds provide the space needed to clearly structure the new focus areas and to visibly integrate formats such as the FAF CAMPUS and FAF WERKRAUM into the trade fair experience.

A dedicated platform for young talent

FAF CAMPUS will give young people entering the skilled trades their own dedicated area at FAF for the first time. The focus will be on vocational training, professional development and talent promotion. Plans include partnerships with schools, trade associations and industry partners, as well as the involvement of national teams and competition formats linked to WorldSkills. The aim is to create a place where young talent, training institutions, skilled trade businesses and industry can come together and explore career opportunities in a practical setting.

Interior design becomes part of FAF

FAF WERKRAUM will be a new themed area dedicated to cross-trade interior design. The focus will be on solutions for floors, walls and surfaces, as well as wallpaper and home textiles. The programme is aimed particularly at interior decorators, floor fitters and planners, as well as skilled trade businesses looking to expand their range of services and develop new areas of business.

Future-focused topics for skilled trade businesses

Skilled tradespeople are facing new challenges not only on site, but also within their businesses. FAF will therefore place greater emphasis on entrepreneurial issues in future. Planned topics include business management, digitalisation, business development, start-ups and succession planning. The programme will be aimed particularly at business owners, managers, founders and successors, providing practical ideas for the future development of their businesses.

Practical application at the heart of the event

Despite the new additions, practical application will remain a central element of FAF. Demonstrations, workshop formats and application examples will allow visitors to experience products, materials and solutions first-hand. The focus will not only be on what is possible, but also on how these solutions can be used in day-to-day work. In this way, FAF will continue to reflect the practical needs of businesses and provide opportunities for professional exchange, hands-on testing and practical application.

Independent trade fair with additional points of connection

FAF 2028 will take place alongside DACH+HOLZ International at Messe Stuttgart. Both events will remain independent leading trade fairs, each with its own profile, target-group focus, organising bodies and brand identity.

“Roofs, walls and façades are closely interconnected in many projects. Painters and decorators, plasterers, roofers and other trades often work at the same interfaces. Holding the two events at the same time creates additional opportunities for visitors and exhibitors without changing the independent character of either trade fair,” says Bettina Erdmann.

FAF will present the new formats and topics through trade media, associations and industry networks when its exhibitor campaign launches at the end of November 2026. Further information is available at https://www.faf-messe.de/en/.
